Board of Trustees We at Mosston have an enthusiastic Board of Trustees who are dedicated to the improvement of Mosston School for the benefit of the children. The Board is made up of the school Principal and a staff representative. The remainder are parent representatives. Our current Board is comprised of: Chairperson - Leayne Huirua Board meetings are usually held in the evening two times a term. Our school and its Board of Trustees is scrutinized on a regular basis by the Education Review Office (ERO) and their comments can be found by clicking here The following is the Community Page of the most recent ERO report and is a summary of ERO findings 26 October 2006 To the Parents and Community of Mosston School These are the findings of the Education Review Office’s latest report on Mosston School. This review investigates how assessment practices promote student achievement in literacy and numeracy. It also reports on Māori achievement, programmes for students who are underachieving, Year 4 health and physical education programmes, prevention of bullying strategies and health and safety for students. Assessment information is well analysed and used to identify and catered for students’ different learning abilities. Most students achieve at or above age expectations in literacy. Those students identified as underachieving in literacy participate in a comprehensive range of support programmes where many make steady progress. Professional development is assisting teachers to meet the needs of those students identified as underachieving in numeracy in 2005. Individual pupil profiles keep parents well informed of the learning focus, and their child’s goals, achievement and progress. Many students know how well they are achieving and how they can improve. Student engagement in learning varies. In some classes, students respond to a variety of effective teaching strategies that encourage them to work cooperatively with peers. However, some students require more motivating activities and increased opportunities to develop social and independent skills. Good teaching practice already evident in the school should be shared and extended to impact positively on all students. Senior managers collaboratively demonstrate a commitment to leading continuous improvement in curriculum delivery. Collegial teacher planning and reflection focuses on outcomes for students. Clear schoolwide guidelines outline practices directly linked to the board’s vision for the school. Knowledgeable trustees continue to extend community involvement in the school. They facilitate formal consultation procedures with the school’s Māori community to develop targets for improving student achievement. Future Action ERO is confident that the board of trustees can manage the school in the interests of the students and the Crown and bring about the improvements outlined in this report. Therefore ERO will review the school again as part of the regular review cycle. Review Coverage ERO reviews do not cover every aspect of school performance and each ERO report may cover different issues. The aim is to provide information on aspects that are central to student achievement and useful to this school. If you would like a copy of the full report, please contact the school or see the ERO website, http://www.ero.govt.nz. Signed Graham
